After the mass shootings at Mosques in New Zealand on March 15, 2019, Angels in Gumboots, an arts and crafts shop in Ashurst, wanted to do something to help. A call out went out to quilters with requests for 6 inch green heart blocks to be made up into lap sized quilts to give to families who lost loved ones, those who were injured and for first responders, emergency services personnel and those working to support those affected by the events of that day.
The response from quilters all around the world was overwhelming and the Facebook page
Quilters Healing Hearts was set up in order to coordinate all of the blocks, quilt tops and finished quilts being donated. There are many pictures of quilts and blocks on that site if you'd like to see.
Members of the Sunbury Stitchers and Quilters made 7 completed quilts and 18 individual green heart blocks to be sent over to Christchurch to show our support. Thanks to everyone who helped out!
