Tuesday Night Stitchers

Each and every week our members bring along their various projects and share with others.  Ann impressed us all by finally taking needle in hand and actually sewing a piece onto one of her Farmer's Wife blocks.  Impressive progress Ann.

Esmae brought along her cosy flannelette jelly roll quilt with the luxurious velvet backing.

Gill's daughter loves her beautiful wedding quilt made by her Mum, Gill, but it is hard to get a good picture of the amazing detail on this quilt.

Lyn has made a full size hexagon quilt for her daughter and this is small replica that Lyn has made for herself.  What tiny hexagons!

The tree of life

Wow!  Carolyn made this throw using the needleturn appliqué method and it only took her two months to hand stitch all those teeny leaves and birds on!  Carolyn used mostly French General fabrics from Moda and tweaked the tree pattern she'd bought from Ballarat Patchwork

Here are some lovely ladies working on the charity quilt for the Sunbury quilt show!  Many hands have worked on this quilt with ladies making log cabin blocks and stitching lovely appliqué designs. Then there was a workshop to put the blocks together and add borders and more appliqué.  Barbara, Esmae, Glo and Beryl are securing leaves along the border.  The quilt will then be quilted and bound and raffled off for a good cause!

I spy with my little eye something beginning with R

Redwork!
This beautiful single sized quilt was made by Joy using fabrics she received from a fellow quilter for her birthday.  Joy machine embroidered the redwork designs, set them in simple square blocks to show them off and then quilted it using a stipple stitch.  But that's not all...Joy's quilt is reversible!

Joy had a lot of fun using the Stack N Slash method for pieceing the quilt back.  It looks great!  Joy didn't make the quilt for anyone in particular but she's sure her granddaughters will all be fighting over it as soon as they see it!

We had another quilt at show and tell... An I spy quilt!

This little quilt has an interesting story behind it!  Years ago Karen hosted high school kids from Belgium and the kids are all grown up with children of their own.  Karen has started a wonderful tradition and celebrates each child's 2nd birthday with an I spy quilt.  This little beauty is for a little boy and Karen is currently working on the toddler's twin sister's version!  What a lovely quilter you are Karen!

Elephant show and tell...

In order to encourage all of you very talented stitchers and quilters to contribute and show off your work, I decided to share with you some show and tell that I'm very proud of! {I couldn't bring this one into sewing as it had to go to it's new owner the day after it was finished}.

These images are of the very first baby quilt I've ever made, which is also the first quilt I've finished from start to finish on my own {to clarify, I've done a few quilt tops, but nothing in it's entirety}. It's also the first time I've used my free-motion quilting skills to great effect! Workshops do come in handy!!

The elephants were raw-edged appliqued onto a 1m x 1.5m piece of white Moda solid fabric. The quilting was mostly squiggly, swirly, "e" shapes and curls and a few elephant shapes here and there to break things up a bit. I did find it quite challenging handling the quilt bulk with such a small sewing machine, but after a while I found I got into a bit of a rhythm. The stitches became more even and flowed really well and I became more confident with my "driving" of the machine. I'm sure Pauline {teacher of our SS&Q quilting workshop from last year} would've been proud of me!

One little Ellie... prior to applique magic!

free motion quilting...

Sewing that binding... probably my least fave part!

Label... and oh so cute spotty, dotty backing!

The label had a quote from Winnie the Pooh that I love...
"Sometimes," said Pooh, "the smallest things take up the most room in your heart."
And here in all it's finished glory is Amy's Elephant Walk... my first completed quilt {all on my very own}. The little feet sticking out of the bottom belong to my Mum... isn't she brilliant?

Here it is! Finished...

See ladies! It didn't hurt a bit to share. Hope you like my elephants.
