It's been a while!

Christmas is over with for another year and we're back at Tuesday night quilting.  Gil brought the quilt she made, with some help from Elizabeth, for her daughter's wedding and it is truly stunning!  Unfortunately I am unable to show you because it's a colonial knot quilt and they don't photograph very well.  Have a great time at the wedding Gil!

Andrea also had show and tell.  She's made a beautiful Clamshell quilt and a smaller wall hanging.

There are some exciting events coming up in our group.  The retreat is in March and the theme for the weekend will be R for retreat oops S for Sunbury Stitchers  (I knew there was a letter involved somewhere!).  We have some workshops coming up and Carolyn and Ailsa are hosting a Mystery BOM which will be lots of fun!

Victorian Ladies

Esmae made this quilt as a wall hanging for her daughter. The pattern was purchased at Sentimental Stitches and was embroidered and hand pieced by Esmae.  The quilting was done by Kerrie Thomas at Black Forest Quilting.

Who wishes they were Esmae's daughter right now?!

Shirt Challenge 2013

A year ago Annie and Lyn organised a Shirt Challenge for us at SS&Q.  Thanks ladies!  You can go back and revisit that post here.  Today we displayed lots of finished (and almost finished!) quilts in the garden at the sewing hall.  They all looked amazing fluttering around in the breeze on the beautiful sunny day we had today.  Unfortunately because of the sun the colours don't show up as well as they should.  Click on the pictures to enlarge.

 Portable ironing/cutting board workshop

After we oohed and ahhed over the shirt challenge quilts, Annie demonstrated how to make an ironing board plus cutting board in a carrying case.  They're very handy for retreats and sew ins!

Show and tell

Carolyn made this quilt as a Round Robin challenge with some of her girlfriends.  It's Carolyn's first hand quilting project!  Carolyn started with the Dresden Plate centre square and borders were added in a round robin method.  This quilt took 12 months to complete.  Just a reminder...you can click on the pictures to enlarge them.

Esmae made this "In the Beginning" quilt.  Michelle Hill designed this quilt in the William Morris tradition.  It started life as a kit although Esmae changed some of the design.  The quilt has been quilted by Kerrie Thomas.

Here is another of the Elf Challenge table runners.  This one was made by Julie.  She embroidered the flowers and the challenge colonial knots were sewn onto the butterfly wings.

Christmas In July

Elf Challenge

Esmae and Barbara were the Elves this year.  The challenge they set was for us to make a table runner with colonial knots on it somewhere.  Cream fabric and thread was provided and instructions reminding us how to do the knots!  Quite a few ladies took part and the hall looked great with the runners on display!  Great challenge Esmae and Barbara!
