Last Post before Christmas

 Last post before Christmas

The sewing enthusiasts continue to be out and about.

This week they have been to Fig and Berry. I know they specialise in Christmas designs which include embroidery and applique. It is way over in the Eastern suburbs so well done ladies.
I included this photo which shows moi attending the City of Hume to pick up our grant. I complain before going but this year it was in Sunbury and due to Covid given a grazing box of food each. Of course I was sucked in. I would like to acknowledge Jason Bell above who was very forgiving with our application this year. I did the application in fits and starts with internet issues and not always having the information and detail which was required. Many emails back and forth with Jason. Finally it was sent in although incomplete by the due date. On my return months later well passed the due date I provided the extra information to find we were successful in achieving a $1000 grant. This year it was transferred electronically so I needn’t have gone. However thank you City of Hume.
This photo is one I missed from last week of the Summer Gathering at Ballan.

Once again stay safe and we go along with Omicron! As if we hadn’t had enough.

Merry Christmas all

 They are out and about!

Pictures arrived today making me green with envy. Many of our members were out and about at the Summer Gathering at Ballan. You can see everyone looked suitably festive with their Chrissy hats. I believe two lucky people won prizes too. I think there was a lot of fun and good cheer and probably a little bit of sewing done.

If you do anything related to sewing please forward photos or information and I or someone will try to publish on our blog.

A reminder that should you wish to continue membership with Sunbury Stitchers and Quilters the annual fee (this year only $10) will need to be paid as soon as possible. If you pay by direct deposit please message either myself or Robyn.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas. Especially stay healthy one and all. These are strange times we live in, so take care. Tuesday night recommences on 18th January and Saturday TBA.

I have a selection of photos taken on a Tuesday night that I attended recently. Above is a Christmas wreath made by Robyn. I thought it looked easy so I had some hexis and tried to make the shape - much harder than it looks.
This was made by Lyn Bassin. It is a lovely example of her work. She had to wait patiently to get it quilted by Kerri

This is classic Di. The colours are hers and the quilting she did herself. She is working through her stash. It is called River log cabin.
Judy V showed two examples of baby quilts she had made, well done

This is a bag that Mary brought along. Such a useful size just big enough for a phone. Great for use when walking
Robyn took us through a mini workshop explaining how to use a hoop for embroidery. This is a sample of her work. I tried but my fingers woudn't cooperate and she assured me it needed practise.
This is Annie Micallef who is beginning an applique quilt. This is one block
This is Fiona's bee quilt which is so bright and colourful.
Judy V 's second quilt

Hope you enjoyed seeing photos of exiting things that ladies made during this last lockdown. It is good to be able to meet again and have the opportunity to share our passion for sewing

As yet we do not have a return date for our meetings. As soon as this is known it will be relayed to all members via email. I believe it is up to the venue to inform us when we can return, so let us hope it is not long.

I am back from my extended stay. The three months I was going to be away turned into 6 months. I timed it well and got back home last Monday. We had a wonderful time but have been saddened to hear that so many of our regular meetings have been cancelled.

I have had some photos passed on to me (no not my holiday photos). I have a few thousand photos of my trip, that I can bore anyone with if you would like to see them.

The Tuesday night group have forwarded some great photos showing how busy they have been. Well done to all of them.

Lockdown show and tell

 Post written by Evelyn

Another lockdown.  Another pile of quilts!  Send me pictures of your quilts if you’d like them to appear on the blog.

Recently, a family in Sunbury lost their home in a fire so I decided they needed quilts. There’s a quilt for Mum, three teenagers and a little lad.  I hope they like them!

Judy A and Barbara B made this quilt using fabrics donated at our club and extras from Judy’s stash.  It was quilted by Judy.

The three HST quilts are for the teenagers.  I pieced them with bargain fabric from Amitié Textiles, Torquay that I bought on one of our bus trips years ago.

I made the robot quilt a while ago because he was very cute and put the quilt aside for a special person.  The young lad seems like the perfect new quilt snuggler.  I probably spent more time piecing the backing than I did the top.

Kay has been busy too making gifts for friends and family.  Her photo shoot is much more exciting than mine!

This dinosaur quilt is for Kay’s partner’s grandson for his 3rd birthday.

The magpie quilt is for Kay’s brother, a keen Collingwood supporter, for his 70th birthday.

This quilt is mostly made up using 2 inch squares.  It’s for Kay’s sister in law for her 70th birthday.

Kay said she’s done all the July birthday quilts and is now getting started on the September big 0 birthdays.  She’s going to be very busy!

Sit n chat!

This is what we’ve been getting up to lately at Saturday Sit n Sew!

Here’s Judy with an old favourite.  She’s completed all of the hexagons and is just sewing the rows together.  Judy was offered much advice on how to do the borders and, of course, within a group of quilters there was a large number of suggestions!

Gail is working on a beautiful Dresden Plate with a difference wall hanging for a friend.  She’s worked out  how to perfect it now so is going to make another for herself!

Scraps for Di!  She’s been sewing this quilt for some time so I suspect it’s going to be BIG!

Annie C is working on this lovely project from the book 101 Fabulous Small Quilts.  Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture of the part she’d sewn wrong.  Oh hi Annie, didn’t see you there!

Here I am planning quilts.I’m going to make three teenage friendly half square triangles quilts.  I love graph paper!  I’ve since finished the top on the one I’m working on in that picture and have started the other on that page. Why, oh why, did I decide to do THREE half square triangle quilts???  I’m beginning to dream of half square triangles!

Here’s Kate sewing little itty bitty blocks together to make a border for a medallion quilt.  Annie C showed her how to “Pop” the seams in the middle so that they lay flat.  There are lots of videos available if you want to give it a try.  And Kate showed us how she uses paper as a leader instead of fabric when you need to prevent your machine from eating your fabric!

These tiny knitted cardigans were made by a friend and Mary is busy sewing buttons on them.  Mary later did some of her own knitting.

Debbie is making a medallion/round robin style quilt for her granddaughter. The border she’s working on now features half Dresden Plates.

Here are Karen, Carolyn and Andrea having a chat.  Karen is working on Judy Newman’s French Medallion quilt. Carolyn is sewing a Dahlia quilt and Andrea is knitting socks!

Ooh show and tell!  Everyone gathers around whenever a quilt or a quilt top comes out of a bag!

This one is Karen’s.

Andrea made this Sew Together bag.  She enlarged the original pattern.

Di completed her California Laundry Basket quilt and here it is posing with Annie’s slightly smaller version.  Are any of you going to sew the new Laundry Basket mystery?

Gail made this lovely quilt for her granddaughter.  She quilted it using an orange peel design.  I love this quilting design as it’s almost like sewing straight lines and yet you end up with circles!

Here’s Annie’s Mysolation quilt.  It was a mystery quilt a lot of people completed during lockdown.

And for an extra bonus here are a couple of shirt challenge quilts!  We’ve seen Kate’s Drunkards Path quilt before but here it is with Aunty Pam and the ladies of St Mark’s Church Op Shop, Balannaring where Kate’s shirts came from.

I previously showed you what I thought was Anne Mc’s shirt challenge.  It turned out to be the back!  How lovely was the back?!  Well, here’s the front!
