Saturday Sit and Sew

Saturday 12^th March

Another lovely day spent sharing with and learning from friends.

Anne-C has been busy with more beautiful miniature quilts and was preparing one for quilting hence the millions of pins (either that or Anne is going for the Punk look 😊):

Andrea’s beautiful hand quilting highlights this cute kid’s panel making it into something very, very special.  Some of you may have also bought this same panel at Mill Rose on a bus trip a few years ago.

And then this ‘I-Spy’ stunner made for her grandson:

Debbie has been very generous and continuous to support our charity efforts.  Our thanks to Debbie and all other club members who continue to provide quilts for Sunshine Hospital and other charities.

As per my email which may have been unclear - anyone can put information on the blog, ideas, sharing, posts of interests, activities you hear about. Send them to me and I can up load them, I can do this where ever my travels may take me, if I have my laptop. It is not a place to share personal opinions, unless they are positive. The club executive have the right to withhold any items which are felt to be negative or untrue. I may edit your post but that will be to save space if there are many items indicating a long post.  I may wait until I have sufficient items to make a post so they may not be every week.

A Very Busy Time

I have been inundated with pictures and information about quilting activities so I apologize if everything I have been given does not appear. It would make this blog very long. They have come from all directions.

These photos are from Tuesday 8th March. We had the pleasure of welcoming three members to our group, so a great welcome to you all.

Lynne had brought "Show and Tell" and had a selection of bags which she had made. One in particular was earmarked for a future workshop. It was a great little bag which would hold a phone and purse whilst going for a walk. All bags were beautifully made and very professional, well done

This last week 10 members attended the retreat in Gisborne. It was a very sought after event and was filled very quickly. Ann Mc is the coordinator of retreats so look out for her future emails if you wish to attend the next one in August.

I have heard that everyone had a great time. I haven't had that many sewing photos, so I am not sure how much sewing happened. I heard stories of lots of laughter, smiling faces and relaxation. A few nanna naps, and heaps of chatter, even a visit to Kerri at Black Forest Quilting. They accepted two visitors who also attended for the day. A thanks passed on to me by many members was to extend a huge thank you to Ann Mc for her organisation and a fun week end.

The design wall was a great help to arrange the pieces in these quilts. Well done ladies.

OUT and ABOUT

Our friends at Saturday Sit and Sew managed to get out too, fitting in a bit of shopping and a night away to do some sewing.

Sorry about the length but a quick reminder Mary is showing us her method of Quilt As You Go next week so bring along the requirements if you wish to take part otherwise come along and watch or do your thing.

Happy Birthday March Birthdays

 We celebrated the birthdays of Sue Yeates, Robyn Zibell and Rosie Carter, who have birthdays in March. Happy Birthday ladies.

It was meeting night tonight - wow -  lots of exciting things planned so look out for the minutes.

Tuesday night Show and tell

 This quilt started off as a wall hanging and was the Heartstrings  pattern put out by Hugs and Kisses during lockdown. Sheila made this while away on the extended holiday last year. All the top was hand pieced until you get to the wide border. When she came back she asked advice from club members about what to do with it, not needing another wall hanging. And so it grew and grew........ She was anxious to try out her new machine for quilting, now having a bigger throat made the task a little easier. The top was all from her stash but the backing was a wide back. It gave her a chance to showcase the quilting

Diane is trying her hand at a small embroidery to hang on a wall.

Robyn shared a good idea to avoid making those sleeves to hang wall hangings. She uses ribbon and buttons to make hangers for the dowel .

Embroidery Part 2

 Welcome back Janice after your short forced stay at home. Glad you were not too sick. The embroiderers were back with continues enthusiasm for excellence. There was lots of concentration and excellent tuition.

There is always show and tell so bring your work to share, any time we love to see what you have been up to.

Mary has a wonderful store of items to show us. Great to see that we don't always have to make quilts. She admitted to spending a lot of time on You tube and Pinterest and finding great ideas like the 5 4inch squares that turned into a mug rug.

Janice showed us her idea for the storage of threads which are colour coordinated. She displayed her skills in the bag she had made and a photo does not do justice to those teeny tiny stitches that are all lined up. 

Both of these quilts are samplers. It is where I have been honing my free motion quilting skills. I have decided I prefer quilting to piecing and sorry Janice even embroidery. In the pink one each block is quilted differently. In the bottom sample each section is heavily quilted with as many different fillers as I could find. I had spent some time following Angela Walters so "Quilting is my Therapy"
